Learn how to get rid of neck lines the right way - quickly.
As we get older wrinkles start to become more and more noticeable. Most people are so focused on keeping their face as wrinkle free as possible that they forget about their neck.
There are two types of wrinkles that you can get on your neck, horizontal wrinkles and vertical wrinkles. You get horizontal wrinkles due to your body producing less collagen as you age, smoking, poor hydration or smoking, whereas vertical wrinkles happen when you keep your head in the same position for a long period of time.
Here are some tips to teach you how to get rid of neck wrinkles, both vertical and horizontal.
Use a neck cream
With so many different creams available to take care of your face, it makes sense that there are some for your neck too. The skin on your neck is thinner and drier than the skin on your face, and since it has fewer oil glands it takes longer to heal from sun damage.
Much like any other moisturizer, a neck cream provides moisture to dry skin, however these are tailored for the thin, almost oil free skin of your neck. The moisture helps your neck to heal from sun damage and, as a result, reduces wrinkles.
Any moisturization of your neck is better than none, but since neck creams are made for the specific type of skin. Specific neck creams will be more effective at stimulating collagen and elastin production, meaning that they’ll tighten up the skin on your neck more effectively.
Exercise your neck
This one may sound a little bit silly, but it works! Since neck wrinkles are a result of the skin loosening, strengthening the skin will help to tighten it up and make the wrinkles less noticeable, or even prevent them all together!
A simple exercise to help with neck wrinkles is “kissing the sky”, and it can be done anywhere that you’re sitting down. Once in a comfortable position you want to look upwards and tilt your head back as far as you can. Once you do this pucker up and hold that position for five seconds. Repeating this exercise five times over the course of the day will help you to get rid of neck wrinkles.
Now we don’t mean doing chin ups at the gym, those are very difficult for some people! What we’re actually talking about here is physically keeping your chin up during the day. Hunching over a computer or a phone all day puts your neck in a position where wrinkles can form.
Investing in a standing desk so that you’re not looking down at your computer is a way to combat this, but posture and back strength exercises also help you to stand taller and keep your chin up, not even giving the wrinkles a chance to form!
Watch your perfume
Dry skin not only helps wrinkles to form, but an ashy neck isn’t exactly a good look at the best of times. If you’re spraying perfume onto your neck every day then the odds are that it’s drying out your skin, especially if it contains alcohol.
We’re not telling you to skip the perfume all together! That stuff is expensive! A good way to prevent a dry neck from perfume use is to spray it on your wrists and behind your ears. If you’re feeling really adventurous another great place for perfume is, surprisingly, behind your knees. There are plenty of options to keep you smelling lovely without causing any dry skin or wrinkles on your neck.
Exfoliate your neck
It seems like exfoliation is almost always a tip when it comes to taking care of your skin, but that’s because it works!
Since your neck skin is so thin make sure that you’re careful to only use a mild exfoliator, only use upward strokes and never do it for more than five minutes. Doing this two to four times a week will help to revitalize your neck and keep it looking smooth and refreshed.
Up to 60% of an adult human body is made up of good old H2O, so it makes sense that if your body functions at its best when you’re hydrated.
It’s the same with your skin. Staying hydrated helps to deliver nutrients to your skin cells as well as removing toxins. This can help with skin disorders like acne and eczema, but also those pesky wrinkles. Plus, since your neck doesn’t secrete much of its own oil, it’s important to keep that skin as hydrated as possible.
Some people even swear that good hydration is even more important than all of the different anti-aging and moisturizing serums you can buy. Although we’re not too sure about this, there is evidence that hydration does help not only your skin, but also your overall health, so you may as well try it!
It can be tough to not only find a skin care regimen that works for you, but to stick to it. We can’t stress how important it is to take care of your neck, even if that’s as simple as moisturizing it along with your face. Once they appear, neck wrinkles are notoriously difficult to get rid of, so don’t even put yourself in that position!
